The Darkling Air & Arco String Quartet return to the Open House stage to perform a host of new material from their forthcoming third album.
Following the release of their debut album ‘Untamed & Beloved’ in 2016, the Bangor-based duo has carved out a unique sonic niche, garnering the praise of broadcasters and critics while securing airplay on RTE, BBC, and beyond.
Bangor Songwriter Rachel McCarthy and Donegal-born composer and producer Michael Keeney have been quietly creating a collection of new music while their sophomore album ‘Ancestor’ was nominated for the 2020 NI Music Prize. In 2022, they were invited to perform in The National Concert Hall (Dublin) for RTE television alongside Lisa O’Neill, Christy Moore, and John Spillane, and will perform later this year with The Ulster Orchestra. Their music has been described as filmic folk, and their song ‘Old Romantic’ is set to feature in an upcoming feature film.
Haunting vocal melodies wrapped in a distinctively beautiful soundscape present a captivating blend aided by live strings, piano, guitar, and electronics.
“The purity of voice, the measured intensity of instrumentation and the depth of lyrical portrait…I can’t recommend The Darkling Air’s “Untamed & Beloved” highly enough…” – Stephen McCauley (BBC Radio Ulster)
