We would like to introduce you to a special friend of ours. Open House and Mike McGoldrick go back more than 25 years. Winning the BBC Young Tradition Award in 1994 launched his career and today he’s one of the most exciting and influential Irish traditional musicians of his generation. Of Irish parentage but raised in Manchester, Mike is a virtuoso on flute, whistles and pipes, a co-founder of Flook and Lúnasa, and known for his collaborations across musical worlds with artists from Afro Celt Sound System to Dezi Donnelly, Capercaillie and Mark Knopfler. John Carty, also born in England of Irish parents, is an award winning fiddle and banjo player, and one of Ireland’s most respected musicians.

Together, Michael and John have created a brand new album, At Our Leisure, and for this celebratory show they will explore the exciting and innovative combination of the banjo with uilleann pipes, as well as playing fiddle, tenor guitar, flute and low whistles. Joining the duo on the night is the much sought after guitar accompanist Matt Griffin.

They will be supported on the night with songs from local folk legends Davy Lennon and Marcus McAuley.

I’ve known John and Michael’s music individually for years, now those two wonderfully talented lads have teamed up and I was privileged to be given a pre-listen to their new album and man it’s just what I expected, beautifully arranged and played. I just love the choice of tunes and the rhythm and harmonies they produce to create this wee gem!
Paddy Keenan

It is indeed a rare pleasure to witness the warm musical embrace of two extremely talented musicians. Executed at an exceptional level of virtuosity this is music of the most exquisite refinement to lift the heart and soul. Maith Sibh!
