‘Theirs is the Glory’ – the story of the Battle of Arnhem, was the biggest grossing war film in the UK for a decade following its release on 17th September 1946. Allan Smith, whose uncle Brian Desmond Hurst directed the film and Colin Bateman whose uncle Sergeant Jack Bateman starred in the film join Scott Edgar of WartimeNI to present this film on the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem. Uniquely there were no mainstream actors as the director wanted authenticity and he got that by taking 120 veterans back to make the film in war ravaged Arnhem. The soldiers gave the performance of their lives so that their 8,000 comrades who dropped from the skies and were killed, wounded or taken prisoner of war at Arnhem would not be forgotten.
