Musical Notes

Our April Book Club features two debut novels that have been making waves since their publication last year.

Spanning two decades, from 1973 to the mid 1990s, The Boy from the Sea by Garrett Carr, senior lecturer in creative writing at Queen’s University, tells the tale of an abandoned baby, the fishing family who adopt him, and a small Donegal town navigating its way through a rapidly changing world.

Moving between 1982 and 2022, A Family Matter by Claire Lynch, professor of creative writing at Brunel University, examines the long-term repercussions within a family when a woman is denied custody of her baby on the grounds of her sexuality.

Our panellists are Hugh Odling Smee, Film Hub NI project manager and founder of Whittrick Press, and author and journalist, Fionola Meredith. They’ll be discussing the two books with local writer Lesley Allen.

Please note this event is fully seated. If you have any accessibility requirements please get in touch with us here.
