Join us in The Drawing Room of The Court House for a collage workshop, hosted by artist Jan McCullough as part of the Open House Festival. This relaxed creative session will delve into the photographic archives of Albert McAlpine (1923-1995), a Northern Irish photographer who documented the evolving social landscape and architecture of his local neighbourhood in East Belfast.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with these images, using them as the foundation for photographic collages that reimagine and build anew the environments depicted – cutting, layering, and assembling to construct new images and narratives.
The session will last 1.5hrs and is suitable for adults and young people age 14+.
This workshop is delivered in partnership with Household. Household is a collectively-led organisation that supports the production of high quality art that connects people and place. This workshop is part of ‘To Make a Monument’, a multi-year project by Jan McCullough produced in collaboration with Household, that uses historical photographic archives as starting points to connect with and explore untold acts and histories of labour, care and maintenance and the communities that form around them.
Jan McCullough’s exhibition ‘INVENTING/DEVISING’ is currently on display in the Drawing Room at the Court House until 26th October 2024.
The exhibition is supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
