At our first Court House Book Club of the new year, we’ll be discussing the recent Booker prize winning novel, Orbital, by Samantha Harvey. This small book deals with the big theme of planet earth and its survival, narrated by six astronauts rotating in space who contemplate the world below. Our second book, The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak, tells the story of forbidden love across the barricades on the divided island of Cyprus.
Discussing the novels are Book Club regular Nick Garbutt, writer, communications expert, and prolific reader, and first-time panellist, Maggie Doyle, an author and poet from Dromara. Maggie published her first book Mountain Notes – A Nature Diary in 2021, and was awarded a John Hewitt Freedom to Write Award in 2024. Chair for the evening is writer and Open House PR, Lesley Allen.
