Musical Notes

The two books under discussion at our December Book Club are the multi-award-winning Heart, Be at Peace, by renowned Irish author Donal Ryan, and Florence Knapp’s acclaimed debut, The Names.

Told in twenty-one voices, Heart, Be at Peace is a heartfelt, lyrical novel set in a small Irish town that delves into themes of grief, healing, and the complexities of human emotions. The Names is a sliding doors tale, in which three alternate narratives examine how the choice of a person’s name can impact the course of their life.

Panellists are Book Club regulars Nick Garbutt, writer, communications expert, and prolific reader, and Louise Farr, whose short stories have been published in several anthologies and featured on BBC Radio 4. They’ll be discussing the two novels with writer Lesley Allen, and revealing what books are on their Christmas wish-list.

The Christmas Book Swap

Our festive book swap was a big hit last year, so we’re bringing it back again this December. Ticket holders are invited to buy a book you really enjoyed reading, slip a little note inside the front cover saying why you loved it so much, and wrap it in Christmas wrapping. We will collect all the books at the start of the evening, then randomly redistribute them during the interval. It is by no means compulsory, but if you bring a wrapped book with, you will leave with one too.

Please note this event is fully seated. If you have any accessibility requirements please get in touch with us here.
