Court Room - theatre seated

Consistently ranked as one of the greatest British movies ever, Ken Loach’s 1967 masterpiece has only improved with time. Billy Casper, a bullied schoolboy in a grim Yorkshire mining town, adopts and trains a young kestrel. As his relationship with the bird develops, Billy begins to awaken and mature – and see a different destiny for himself than a life down the mines.

The movie is based on A Kestrel for a Knave, Barry Hines’ influential novel. Brilliant acting, authentic dialogue and a scathing portrayal of the 1960s education system all elevate this ‘coming of age’ story to cinematic perfection. David Bradley, who had never acted before, is utterly convincing as Billy.
