Court Room - theatre seated

A highly personal documentary from Holywood director John T. Davis. The Uncle Jack is a vivid portrait of Davis’s uncle John McBride Neill – the celebrated architect who designed Northern Ireland’s most glamorous cinemas during the 1930s and 40s – and a self-portrait of Davis himself. It also serves as an elegy to NI’s lost ‘picturehouses’, not least Bangor’s Tonic Cinema, regarded as McBride Neill’s architectural masterpiece.

Supported by the Strand Arts Centre’s NI-wide project: The Lasting Picturehouse, made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
