Colin Bateman and Ian McDonald

What are the chances of two young boys who were neighbours on an ordinary residential street in Bangor, both growing up to become successful, award-winning writers. One would make his name writing crime thrillers, the other sci-fi horror.

In the mid 1960s, Colin Bateman lived at 11 Wellington Park, and Ian McDonald lived two doors down at number 7. The two boys weren’t best buddies, Ian being a couple of years older than Colin, but they knew each other well enough.

Since his debut novel, Divorcing Jack, was published in 1995, Colin has written thirty novels, a memoir, multiple TV shows, several stage plays, and numerous screenplays, including the upcoming feature film Killing Castro.

Ian’s first novel Desolation Road was published in 1988, and has remained in print ever since. He has written a further 23 novels to date, as well as five short story collections, eight novellas, a graphic novel and a TV movie, and has been nominated for every major award in science-fiction writing.

At this special event, Colin and Ian will be reminiscing about those Wellington Park days, and talking to each other about their incredible writing careers.

Please note this is a festival event and an Open House Festival Ticketsolve login will be required to be book tickets.
