Celebrating National Lottery Open Week
Take a free guided tour of the old Court House on Bangor seafront and follow its fascinating 150 year journey from construction as a bank in 1866, to its repurposing as a Magistrates Court in the 1950s, to its recent transformation into a dedicated music and arts venue. Local historian Robert Lyle will talk you through the Italianate architecture, the Troubles fortifications and the building’s important role in Bangor’s history. Alison Gordon will tell you the story of how Open House Festival acquired and restored the building, salvaging fixtures from local hotels to help with the fit-out, and winning the prestigious National Lottery Project of the Year award. Learn how Open House Festival and the Court House are using arts and heritage to help drive regeneration in this Northern Irish seaside city. After the tour finishes, stay and enjoy free Irish traditional music sessions from 3 – 6pm in either of the venue’s two bars.
